LinkedIn in 2025: Opportunities or Overwhelming Spam? Happy Wednesday! You might wonder if I…
Happy Wednesday!
You might wonder if I will discuss one of my favourite topics again — unfortunately, not this time. Instead, I’ve chosen a different topic that will grab your interest. A few days ago, I was bored and got that familiar “itch.” No, not the kind that needs ointment, but the kind that drains your phone battery while making you feel oddly productive as you catch up on global events.
Anyway, let’s dive in!
What Has LinkedIn Become?
When you think of LinkedIn, what comes to mind? For me, it’s networking. LinkedIn was once synonymous with professional growth. It was a platform where people could connect, learn, and have meaningful conversations about work, career growth, and business tips.
Officially launched in 2003, LinkedIn has grown to be the largest professional social network, boasting over 900 million users. Its mission? To “connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful.” For years, it has done just that, offering features ranging from job hunting to building valuable connections.
However, times have changed. Today, many of us are left wondering: what has LinkedIn become? With the rise of spam messages, unsolicited emails, and irrelevant offers, the platform sometimes feels more time-consuming than productive.
What could be another alternative?
Because of all this craziness, here are a few that have caught my attention for different reasons:
While primarily a job board, Indeed offers company reviews and career resources, facilitating some level of networking, especially if you’re actively searching. I’ve found seeing what companies are hiring in my area helpful. Similar to Indeed, Glassdoor provides valuable insights into companies and salaries, and also has job listings. It’s great for researching company culture and getting employee satisfaction. And last let’s not ignore Alignable networking platform designed specifically for small business owners to connect, collaborate, and grow their local communities. Unlike LinkedIn, Alignable emphasizes building relationships between business owners, fostering referrals, and supporting local economies.
But, Is LinkedIn Still Worth It?
Despite the noise, LinkedIn remains a powerful networking tool. You can still find the right people to connect with using the right keywords and focusing on specific fields or industries. It’s not like TikTok, where everyone knows everyone else’s business. LinkedIn still has its professional edge, even if it requires more effort to sift through the clutter.
For all its flaws, LinkedIn continues to offer incredible opportunities. The key for users? Learn to filter out the unnecessary distractions. As one quote I found online perfectly puts it, “Let’s connect to discuss a mutually beneficial relationship.” Maybe we all embraced this mindset and made the platform work for us again.
What do you think about LinkedIn in 2025? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
